Soil Modification/Base Stabilization
Stabilization is the process of incorporating Lime, Cement, or Fly Ash to the subgrade when the existing subgrade is unsuitable for construction purposes. These additives will chemically and structurally change the subgrade resulting in the following benefits:
- Increased soil strength
- Streamlined construction schedules
- Economical use of existing subgrades
- Increases the optimum moisture of the subgrade
- Reduces the soil plasticity
- Decreases the effects of freeze-thaw cycles
Full Depth Reclamation (FDR)
Full Depth Reclamation or FDR is the process of recycling the existing pavement into a new base layer by adding new aggregates, asphalt emulsion, lime, cement, or fly ash. The process prepares the existing pavement to become the new base layer prior to placing the new pavement. The 3 types of Full Depth Reclamation that Dunn Company performs are as follows:
- Mechanical Stabilization – Grind Existing Pavement
- Chemical Stabilization – Lime, Cement or Fly ash
- Bituminous Stabilization – Engineered Emulsion
